Located within the city of
Saratoga Springs, this barn inspired home integrates modern open
floor plan living with a traditional local vernacular. Utilizing
a stacking concept for the programmatic layout, this home
strives to achieve a minimal footprint on the landscape, while
allowing the open interaction between spaces. A central stair
threads the vertical connection of spaces on all three levels,
culminating in a clerestory which provides an infiltration of
natural light to filter through the house, as well as, providing
a sensible means to incorporate passive heating and cooling
strategies. Driven by the desires of the home owners, Phinney
Design Group developed this home as a focus of sustainability
and green building strategies. Incorporating various green and
sustainable features such as a photovoltaic array, solar hot
water, rain water harvesting, drought tolerant landscaping,
community resources, and
