Almost 5 years after Phinney Design Group designed the widely successful and well-received Classical Concepts, AVEDA Lifestyle Salon and Spa in downtown Saratoga Springs, the AVEDA owners commissioned Phinney Design Group once again to design their second Classical Concepts AVEDA Salon and Spa to be located in the most successful shopping mall in the Albany area. In order to design the retail store, salon, and spa to be consistent with the natural tranquility and ecological based AVEDA brand, Phinney Design Group customized the space to appeal to and attract passerby’s curiosity, luring them from the mall’s hallway into the salon, while simultaneously shielding the clientele from the traffic of the mall. Acrylic screens and slatted wood were used to provide screening while glass doors and transoms allow light in from above. Upon entering the retail store, curving walls, sinuous floor transitions, and path-like lighting lead you into the salon where circular forms pivot the customer to various services such as; hair styling, soothing pedicures, relaxing manicure, and a quiet treatment waiting area leading to separate select spa rooms. Ultimately the winding floor patterns, soothing colors, and use of various natural woods and tile provide an unexpected, ecologically-friendly, lulling experience.
